The Upper Valley Haven will be open this Saturday and Sunday, July 20 and 21, to provide a place of respite from the very high and dangerous temperatures predicted for this weekend. The Haven, located at 713 Hartford Avenue in White River Junction, normally is closed for services other than its shelters on weekends. However, due to the temperatures expected in the mid-90s the Haven decided to open its doors to its air-conditioned building for the warmest hours of Saturday and Sunday.
The Haven will be open to the public from 1:30 pm to 6:00 pm on Saturday and 10:30 am to 5:00 pm on Sunday.
The Haven will provide breakfast, lunch and snacks during the day. The Haven will also be open for business as usual on Friday from 8:30 to 4:00 pm. Executive Director, Michael Redmond, stated, “We’re concerned that the predicted high temperatures could be a major health risk to our friends and neighbors who can’t find a cool place to avoid the heat. I asked the Haven staff if anyone would be willing to work over the weekend, so we could be open, and I was overwhelmed by the positive response. They really care about the community and the people we serve and wanted to help.”
