White River Junction, VT – The Upper Valley Haven is pleased to announce the appointment of Will Towne as its new Executive Director, effective mid-November. Towne succeeds Michael Redmond, who is retiring after seven years of service and leadership.

Towne was selected following a nationwide search conducted with the executive search firm Isaacson, Miller. The process was guided by a search committee of Haven board members and staff, with all staff invited to share input along the way. The Haven’s Board of Directors unanimously approved the appointment, reflecting their strong confidence in his leadership and vision.

Towne brings more than a decade of experience in housing, shelter, and youth and family services, most recently serving as Chief Operating Officer at Spectrum Youth & Family Services, based in Burlington, VT. In that role, he oversaw agency-wide operations, expanded programs and facilities, and led initiatives in property development, fundraising, and policy creation.

Earlier in his career, he helped launch a Winter Warming Shelter, managed supported housing programs, and advanced basic needs services such as drop-in centers and housing support for young people.

Beyond his organizational leadership, Towne has been an active voice in housing and homelessness policy statewide. He has served on the Governor’s Council on Housing and Homelessness, co-chaired the Chittenden County Homeless Alliance, and contributed to multiple statewide committees focused on shelter, data, and coordinated entry. His work reflects a consistent commitment to equity, sustainability, and ensuring that client perspectives shape programs and services.

“We are thrilled to welcome Will Towne as our new Executive Director,” said Kathy Welling, President of the Haven’s Board. “Will impressed our Search Committee with his deep knowledge of housing and the needs of people experiencing homelessness, as well as his thoughtful, approachable leadership style. Will’s vision and collaborative spirit make him the right person to guide the Haven into its next chapter.”

Mary Brown, Chair of the Search Committee and member of the Haven’s Board of Directors, added, “The search was highly professional and collaborative, and we are grateful for the thoughtful work that guided the process. We trust that the Upper Valley will reap the rewards of this work as Will begins his leadership, and we are delighted to welcome him to our community.”

For 45 years, the Haven has provided food, shelter, service coordination, and children’s programming to more than 10,000 people each year. All services are free of charge and available 365 days a year.

With Towne’s leadership, the Haven will continue strengthening these essential services while preparing for the future. The Haven has always adapted to meet changing needs in the Upper Valley community. With the planned June 2026 opening of the new Shelter & Resource Center in White River Junction, and with a continued focus on guiding individuals and families toward a self-directed  life, we remain committed to being here for anyone who needs us today and in the years ahead.

“I am honored and excited to be joining the Haven as its next Executive Director” said Towne. “The Haven represents hope and resiliency at a time when the needs of our communities are growing. I look forward to working alongside staff, volunteers, and community members to continue this important work and build a strong future together.”
