UPPER VALLEY HAVEN ELECTS NEW BOARD MEMBERS
The Upper Valley Haven has announced the election of three new board members at its March meeting and one at its January meeting. They are Scott Farnsworth, Kate Hagner, Thomas Yurkosky, and Carin Reynolds. Each new member brings important skills and experience that will support the Haven’s mission focused on people from the Upper Valley who are experiencing challenges of hunger and food insecurity, homelessness and housing, and the impacts of poverty.
Board President, Mary Brown, states, “With the pandemic hopefully in the rearview mirror, we are excited to add these new Board members who will support the Haven’s essential role in the Upper Valley. I’m especially thrilled that we are adding two residents of White River Junction where our programs have been based since our founding more than 40 years ago.”
Thomas Yurkosky of Lyme, NH, a certified public accountant, previously served on the boards of Thetford Academy, the Lyme School, and the Lyme Foundation, where he held Vice President and Treasurer position. Yurkosky is a seasoned leader with experience in strategic, operational, financial, and human resources work. Tom will become the Treasurer of the Haven.
Kate Hagner of White River Junction, VT has twenty years of experience in the nonprofit and social services sectors where she gained strategic, planning, and operational experience. Kate is a compassionate leader who believes in driving strategic solutions with a deep commitment to equity. Hagner will serve on the Haven’s Program Committee along with new member, Scott Farnsworth.
Scott Farnsworth of White River Junction is Assistant Director of the Hartford Career and Technology Center. Scott has over twenty years of working in education including 18 years in the Hartford school system.
Carin Reynolds of Lebanon, NH, attorney at Reynolds Law PLLC, serves on the boards of the Friends of Norris Cotton Cancer Center and Upper Valley Rowing Foundation. Reynolds brings two decades of experience and a love for the Upper Valley to her new position on the Haven Board of Directors. Carin will join the Governance Committee.
The Upper Valley Haven is a private, nonprofit organization that celebrated its 40th year anniversary in 2021. With the support of the UV community, the Haven assists those who are experiencing poverty to be free from hunger, securely housed, and to pursue a self-directed life.
The Haven operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and never charges for any services. The Upper Valley Haven serves more than 14,000 people annually.
