About Volunteering for Hixon House Meal Makers
Volunteer meal makers have provided dinner at Hixon House Adult Shelter seven nights a week since the opening of the shelter in 2010. In addition to serving a home-cooked dinner, the program was designed to bring community together through interactions between guests and volunteers over a shared meal. Currently Hixon House is closed to the public due to Covid-19 and volunteers are cooking at home for 15 people then dropping off a meal.
Ingredients for Your Dinner
We appreciate your time and investment in cooking for Hixon House. You can utilize available items from our Food Shelf. Simply get in touch in with us 2-3 days prior to your dinner with a menu or grocery list. We also have disposable aluminum pans for your use. If any ingredients are unavailable, we’re happy to suggest substitutions or you can purchase items at the store if your personal budget allows.
