The Haven Family Shelter has the capacity to house eight families. The typical stay of a family is two to three months. During this time, parents work closely with their designated Case Manager and Shelter Staff to address their family’s goals and needs. Families are connected with state health agencies, other non-profits, welfare agencies and child care, and are helped with transportation to meetings. They are encouraged to participate in the Haven’s educational programs, including a parenting support group, women’s support group, and children’s educational and enrichment programming. Staff assist families with their search for housing and employment, help with budgeting skills, and provide follow-up throughout the process.
After they leave the Haven Shelter, 75–80% of guests find and maintain permanent housing. Many continue to stay connected with the Haven, either by participating in our education programs or through the Haven Aftercare Program. In the Aftercare Program, Case Managers make regular visits and phone calls to families who express an interest in continuing to work with the Haven.
