The Haven Shelter & Resource Center
We are raising funds through the Haven Shelter and Resource Center Campaign to provide critical resources for those in need that can lead to permanent housing.
Why it Matters
The Need is Urgent
- Homelessness is now at historic levels in the Upper Valley in both Vermont and New Hampshire.
- 177 unhoused individuals in the Hartford, VT district (2024 data)
- 63 unhoused individuals in Lebanon, NH (2024 data)
- Increasing rents and next-to-no vacancies make it nearly impossible for individuals with lower incomes, part-time jobs, or those unable to find employment to secure housing.
- Vermont has added restrictions to eligibility and the maximum number of days individuals can access emergency shelter in motels, with a cap on rooms that is routinely surpassed by need.
- Underinvestment in physical and mental health services in both Vermont and New Hampshire leave many individuals without access to essential care, worsening conditions that can lead to job loss and housing instability.

Your Support Saves Lives

Dave & Mystic’s Journey
For Dave, twenty years of living outside have been filled with trials and triumphs. His dog Mystic, rescued as a puppy, has been his constant source of strength and joy. “I don’t go anywhere without her,” he says, reflecting on their unbreakable bond.
Dave has faced significant challenges, including struggles with mental health and addiction, but the Haven has been a steady source of support. During the harsh winter months, Dave and Mystic have found refuge at the Lebanon Seasonal Shelter. The low-barrier model allows them to stay together, a comfort that Dave deeply values. “They’ve always, without judgment, accepted me with open arms,” he shares. From providing a safe place to recover after a serious injury to creating a sense of community, the Haven has been a constant in his life.
The new Haven Shelter and Resource Center will expand this essential support, offering a welcoming, year-round space where individuals like Dave and Mystic can rebuild their lives with dignity and hope.
