About Volunteer Dinner Teams

Volunteer dinner teams have provided dinner at Hixon House Adult Shelter seven nights a week since the opening of the shelter in 2010. In addition to serving a home-cooked dinner, the program was designed to bring community together through interactions between guests and volunteers over a shared meal.

Dinner Teams Come in All Forms

Some teams prepare food in advance and drop it off before the dinner hours. Others bring the main dish and prepare side items on site. And still others make the entire meal at Hixon House prior to our 6:30 p.m. dinner service. All approaches are appreciated.

Dinner Teams Range in Size

We find that two to six people is best for our kitchen space if you cook at the Haven. Many families bring children who are old enough to help with meal preparation. Because we need dinner teams 365 days a year, many dinner teams sign up on a recurring monthly schedule. Other sign up every other month or a few times a year.

The dinner team calendar is published on our website so your group can easily see what dates are available.
