TransCanada Contributes to the Upper Valley Haven on Vermont’s First-Ever Day of Giving
White River Junction, VT—June 17, 2016
In honor of VT Gives, Vermont’s first-ever statewide day of giving, TransCanada made a $5,000 donation to the Upper Valley Haven.
TransCanada has been a consistent annual supporter of the Haven for the past eight years. “TransCanada is grateful for the help the Upper Valley Haven provides to residents of our community who are struggling with poverty, homelessness and hunger,” says TransCanada’s Matthew Cole, “and we are proud to support their efforts.”
VT Gives was a 24-hour online challenge on June 7, created by Common Good Vermont, designed to raise awareness about local non-profits, and engage supporters and new donors in their important work.
“We thank TransCanada for this generous gift and for kicking off the Haven’s participation in this new statewide day of giving, “says Sara Kobylenski, Executive Director of the Upper Valley Haven. “This year’s results for VT Gives were impressive—the initiative raised over $83,155 for 209 non-profit organizations in Vermont. TransCanada’s gift demonstrates their continued dedication to the Haven’s mission and serves as an example and inspiration to others.”
The Haven, located in White River Junction, serves more than 13,500 people from VT and NH each year. Because of its location and service population, the Haven also received support through NH Gives, held on the same day, and looks forward to building on that start in the coming years. NH Gives saw outstanding results, bringing in $188,239 for 281 non-profits in the state.
As the lead sponsor of the Haven’s Chefs of the Valley for almost a decade, TransCanada’s $5,000 donation will be the final sponsorship gift designated to the 2016 event, held last month at the Hanover Inn. Funds will be used to support the Haven’s core programs including the Food Shelf, adult and family shelters, and educational programming.
