Stan and Joe — two of the Haven’s most gracious visitors — placed a box at the bus stop in front of the Haven so that folks who would otherwise throw garbage on the ground have a better option. “I couldn’t stand looking at all the trash around the bus stop and wanted to do something about it,” said Joe. For more than two years the two have been emptying full boxes of trash into the Haven’s dumpster, and returning the box to the bus stop to be used again. Both Joe and Stan visit the Haven café many mornings for coffee and fresh produce. “It is pretty wonderful that people who have little enough themselves can care about our public places,” said Nancy Griffin, a Haven Community Case Manager.
The Haven Through 40 Years
The Haven will commemorate its four decades of service to the region by releasing 40 stories of people, events, ideas, and services fundamental to our mission. We will be releasing these stories weekly, so check back often.
