Thayer School at Dartmouth Creates Play Structure for Toddlers

In a sprint term Engineering Class, Dartmouth Professor Vicki May, second from left in photo above, invited students to design and build a play structure for the Haven campus. Five groups of students presented their innovative ideas on April 17th to the Haven staff. After time to reflect and  analyze, the students prepared a second presentation which focused on a train-themed play area for young toddlers and addressed specific aspects of the  design. The students made their concepts a reality by building an engine (complete with levers and knobs), a train car with benches and windows, and a small ramp that children can ride their bikes across. Their hard work and focus on the needs of the Haven’s children resulted in an outstanding play structure that will be treasured for years to come!
