On February 12th the Haven had the honor of becoming the first organization in the North East to receive a newly installed Book Nook by Scholastic Book Fairs. The Book Nook includes three new shelving units, a cushioned bench with built in shelving, a listening station complete with a CD player and headphones for kids to listen to books and read along, a new rug, several bean bag chairs for comfortable reading and a 1,200 books for reading levels from kindergarten through 8th grade to fill the shelving units!
Within hours of the installation children from the After School Program were enjoying every nook and cranny of the Book Nook. “This is EPIC!”, a child said while making himself comfortable on the reading bench, and spreading his arms wide to show the enormity of the occasion. Later, three ten year olds gathered around the listening station on bean bags and followed along with a book while listening to the CD. Another young adult came into the room and started reminiscing about the books she remembered from childhood.
We are delighted to have this new resource for all the children of the Haven!
