Clare came to the Haven in the bitter cold — homeless — carrying her infant son and everything she owned. She had almost nothing; and no time, space or focus to put her life back together. At the Haven she could breathe again knowing she had a roof over her son’s head, and a place to call HOME. While in the shelter she found a job, childcare and was connected to health insurance and other assistance. She found hope and opportunities; and learned the power of choices. Within five months she moved into her own apartment, and chose to participate in Family Supportive Housing; a Haven program that continues support for families after moving out of shelter, and requires goal-setting, weekly meetings and engagement in financial coaching to ensure self-sufficiency and family stability.
The Haven helps all who are committed to moving forward in life — without judging —
because everyone is entitled to the basic needs of food, shelter, clothing, education and belonging.
The Haven Through 40 Years
The Haven will commemorate its four decades of service to the region by releasing 40 stories of people, events, ideas, and services fundamental to our mission. We will be releasing these stories weekly, so check back often.
