A great gift for a child you love, and an opportunity to help feed the hungry.
Fifty cents of every book sold goes to the Haven Food Shelf.
What can I do? How can I help? This is what I asked myself a month ago when I heard that sometimes the Upper Valley Haven food shelf is low on food. A major area grocery chain has stopped giving to the VT Food Bank, which is the Haven’s main resource. Added to this difficulty, the number of families needing assistance is increased greatly, so as generous as people are with donations, the shelves often empty faster than they fill.
With winter approaching, I was alarmed when I learned of the shortage. Where would the food come from; will people go hungry? I decided to link selling one of my children’s books to this need. KATY CARES FOR THE ANIMALS is a picture story book set in the Upper Valley. Fifty cents of every book sold goes to the Haven Food Shelf.
I am not doing a big thing, but I take heart from the verse that says, “Do not despise the day of small beginnings.” It gives me joy to help!
