Businesses help those struggling during the holiday seasons

Can you imagine being homeless with little or no money around the holiday season? Many families and individuals are living paycheck to paycheck and can’t afford all that comes with the holiday season. Luckily, numerous businesses in the Upper Valley choose to help those struggling to make ends meet during the holidays with creative ways of giving back. We’ve listed just 6 of the efforts below, knowing there are many others just as worthy of being mentioned:

Each year Board & Basket wraps holiday gifts purchased at their store. This year they gave shoppers the option of making a donation to the Haven and raised more than $1,300! Pictured above is owner Drew Nelson, giving a check to the Haven’s Executive Director, Sara Kobylenski.

Radio station 95.3, The Wolf, really stepped up in December when we were short on food in our Food Shelf. They held a food drive for a full week at the Co-op in Centerra Parkway that filled our box truck 3 times with food donated by the community! Thanks to the staff of the Co-op for their help in this endeavor and for the volunteers who helped each day of the week.

Employees of A Clean Vision in Quechee, VT donated cash for the Haven to purchase food. Because of the generosity of the employees, the owners decided to match their donation! The Haven was able to purchase a total of $550 dollars worth of food!

Children in the Hartford, VT Afterschool Program made cookies and a card for visitors of the Haven.

Upper Valley Yoga in White River Junction, VT donated the proceeds of a class, which was over $600, to the Haven.

Dartmouth Food Connection, a community service group at Dartmouth College, hosted a Hunger Awareness Dinner the last week of the fall term. Students donated dining dollars from their meal plan to the Haven and raised more than $1,000.
