Hartford High School Applesauce Donation

Students from 6 different advisories made applesauce for the Haven this October. Over 220 pounds of apples were donated by Willing Hands, an organization that donates primarily fruit and vegetables that might otherwise go to waste to people in need. Students washed, cut and peeled every single apple, then cooked and ground it into applesauce. Once cooled, applesauce was scooped into quart sized containers. When containers were filled, students walked the applesauce to the Haven in order to place the containers directly on the Food Shelf. Hartford students processed 131 pounds of applesauce for families in need. The applesauce project was a positive school community builder, a great way to introduce students to the Haven and the Food Shelf, and an excellent method to connect high school students with their community.
The Haven Through 40 Years
The Haven will commemorate its four decades of service to the region by releasing 40 stories of people, events, ideas, and services fundamental to our mission. We will be releasing these stories weekly, so check back often.
