Since 1980 the Upper Valley Haven has provided temporary shelter and educational programming for homeless families and adults as well as food to anyone in need.
Where People Find Hope and Discover Possibility
The Upper Valley Haven is a private nonprofit that provides support and assistance to community members struggling with poverty in Vermont and New Hampshire. We meet people where they are, address immediate needs through food and shelter, and offer longer-term solutions that foster independence and housing stability. Everyone deserves to have their basic needs met and a community is stronger when we offer a hand up to our most vulnerable neighbors.

We are delighted to welcome Susan "Sue" Buckholz from White River Junction, VT and Alisha Robinson from Lebanon, NH, as new members of the Haven Board. Their valuable skills and experiences will greatly enhance our mission to support UV residents facing food and housing insecurity. We eagerly anticipate the positive contributions they will make, and look forward to achieving great things together. ✨ #newboardmembers
The Upper Valley Haven has been a recipient of some of this funding. Michael Redmond, Executive Director, shares: “Since 2018, @dartmouthhealth has provided grant funding for the Haven’s supportive housing services. Supportive housing is an evidence-based strategy to help people who have been homeless to successfully retain their housing with the case management support of Upper Valley Haven service coordinators. In the Parkhurst supportive housing project, an 18-unit building in downtown Lebanon that provides rent support and supportive housing services for tenants, we have been tremendously successful in accomplishing this goal. A total of 34 tenants have lived there since it opened in 2018. 80% remain securely housed.”

Did you know? Many facing homelessness avoid shelters because their pets aren’t allowed. Studies show pets provide a sense of responsibility, reduce substance use, and offer companionship and security. That`s why a year ago, The Haven started welcoming service pets (with documentation) in our shelters, including the Lebanon Seasonal Shelter. 🐾 #PetFriendlyShelter #HomelessnessAwareness
