Thank you. As a community, you have continued to step up again and again, year after year, to help people living in poverty in the Upper Valley. We’re grateful for your food and cash donations, volunteer hours, attendance at events, responses to special drives items like winter coats and blankets, and throughout it all, the energy and caring you demonstrate.
We had a fun celebration with 100 community members and Marko the Magician on Thursday, January 26th at Tracy Hall. It was great to see everyone and be able to thank many of you in person.
The final tally? Drumroll, please. With the generous $125,000 match from the Jack and Dorothy Byrne Foundation, the total raised this year through 19 Days in all towns was over $260,000.
“This was my first year participating in 19 Days as a Haven staff member,” said Laura Gillespie, Director of Development and Communications who joined the Haven in September. “It has been incredible to see the different ways that people come together to participate. The final amount raised is astounding! It says so much about our community. We are grateful to the Jack & Dorothy Byrne Foundation for their matching gift, which served as the inspiration for many people to make their gifts in December and even increase their support over last year.”
One of Laura’s favorite 19 Days events was the Pet Contest. Her dog Buddy received five votes, three of which may or may not have been placed by Laura. Laura and Buddy are already making plans for next year’s contest.
The Haven Through 40 Years
The Haven will commemorate its four decades of service to the region by releasing 40 stories of people, events, ideas, and services fundamental to our mission. We will be releasing these stories weekly, so check back often.
